Community

As a society we've become more and more separated from one another. Aside from teens who spend large amounts of time with people their own age in school, we don't see others as often as we once did. We'll blame it on air conditioning- you think I'm joking don't you? Anyway, this week I attended lots of community events. At the library's monthly community movie night I sat with 37 other people and watched an animated movie. I could have watched it at home with just my family, but there's something about being with others. Why do we go to the movie theater? So, it's fun to enjoy events with other people. I think we're made this way. I also facilitated a Murder Mystery for the library teens. It's improv acting where they are assigned a character then make up that part as they go. It's a stitch to watch them work through who these people are while trying to solve a murder. The plots are usually weak, but fun is had by all. Again, the draw is the community aspect- just being together. The third event was our church gathering which is sort of like a family get-together. Even my karate class is a community event. I could practice alone or work one-on-one with an instructor, but it's better with other people- more fun, more challenging, more something.  So...as I look to future weeks (future library events planning for me) I want to be aware of our need for community. How is that need being met in your life? Don't let technology separate you from those around you- live in community:)
