What's Up in YA Books?

I took a pilgrimage this Saturday- Half Price Books and Border's in the same night:) Whenever I go into Border's I'm always interested in the ways they display their books, especially in YA, and what that says about current trends in YA writing. So what did I see on this trip? Right at the front of the store was Rick Riordan (Percy Jackson and Red Pyramid)- since these books are a little older I was confused. Then I saw he has a new book out...The Lost Hero (Book 1 of the Heroes of Olympus)- a new Percy Jackson. The new books are all displayed together- facing front, of course. Then in YA, there were various displays for Halloween- not too hard since the trend for awhile now has been supernatural stuff. So...my question is when do we get a new trend? I'm tired of vampires- YUCK!, werewolves, and fairies. The past few years have also brought us numerous fallen angels, immortals, and socialites of all varieties. Is this really all YA are interested in? Please someone with great writing skills and insight into YA...write something new!!!
